Overview / Context

In 2022, I photographed the Odd Ones EP Release Show at Hard Luck Bar in Toronto. The lineup featured Odd Ones, Redhanded Daniel, and Uforia, creating a night filled with energy, raw emotion, and immersive audience experiences. The show highlighted Toronto’s underground music scene, and my goal as the photographer was to capture the intensity, movement, and atmosphere of this one-night performance from the stage to the crowd.

Photography Objective

  • Document live performances and artist interactions with the audience

  • Capture the mood, energy, and atmosphere of Hard Luck Bar

  • Produce images suitable for artist promotion, social media, press, and archival documentation

  • Preserve the storytelling of a dynamic, underground music event

The Challenge

  • Fast-paced, constantly moving performers

  • Dynamic and low-light stage environments requiring quick adaptation

  • Limited time to capture key moments of a one-night show

  • Balancing technical precision with artistic expression to reflect the raw energy of the performances

Photography Approach

  • Low-Light Adaptation: Adjusted camera settings to work with changing stage lighting while maintaining color accuracy and detail

  • Dynamic Composition: Captured movement, gestures, and interaction between performers and audience

  • Audience Perspective Shots: Included crowd reactions and engagement to contextualize the atmosphere of the venue

  • Close-Up Performer Portraits: Highlighted facial expressions, emotion, and stage presence

  • Storytelling Focus: Each photo was framed to reflect the energy, intensity, and narrative of the live music experience
